District five councilman Emile Spano asked the council to revisit the ordinance on abandoned cars in the city.
Spano asked City Attorney Chuck Long for legal advice regarding this issue.
"The problem is that as soon as the abandoned cars are removed, within a few months they are back," says Spano. "We need to work on removing them permanently."
Long reviewed the current ordinance, and told council members that he would review the ordinance and report back to the council at there committee of the whole meeting that is scheduled, September 14 at 10 a.m.
Spano asked if the process of removing "junk" cars could be sped up, or given a shorter amount of time to remove the cars.
"The problem is the ordinance, and it needs to be revised," says Raymond Aucoin, Council Chairperson.
However, Donaldsonville resident Ora Bazile addressed the council to give credit to Mayor Leroy Sullivan, Donna Gaignard, Assistant to the Mayor, and councilmen for the improvements in her neighborhood.
"Grass has been cut and maintained, and lots are being cleaned, as well as, junk cars being removed," she says.
" I want to personally thank the mayor for addressing my problems personally and putting things back in order on Barcelona Street," she added.
