Donaldsonville City Council members met in their regular scheduled meeting on Tuesday evening at city hall. All members of the council were present with the exception of Rev. Charles Brown.
Business owner Floyd LeBoarde addressed the council to discuss re-zoning the properties located at 1001 and 3732 Hwy 1 South from its current C-1 neighborhood commercial zone to a C-2 general commercial zone.
"It will allow me to get properties leased for businesses to provide services to the community," said LeBoarde.
The current properties appearances raised some questions for some councilmen.
"Some parts of the property located at 1001 needs re-painting and other exterior issues before talks of re-zoning," said Councilman Lauthaught Delaney.
Realtor Stevie Graugnard told the council that her clients intent is to provide a business to the community to sell and make money. "My client cannot go forward with this process until the re-zoning issue is resolved," she said.
Council Chairperson Raymond Aucoin said that the council will research this issue and come up with a plan at a later date.
In other business:
Dean Werner of the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office gave a monthly update. He reported that his office handled a total of 496 service calls for the month of June. Deputies made 111 adult arrests and eight juvenile arrests.
Fire Chief Chuck Montero reported for the month of July, his office handled a total of 64 calls whereas 45 of those calls where for EMS services. Montero also reported his office performed a total of 308 man hours of training.
The council also discussed raising the rental cost of the Lemann Center by $200 to cover monthly costs and upkeep of the building. Council will discuss in detail more plans at a later date.
All council meetings are open to the public and meetings are held every second and fourth Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. at city hall.
